Street food and top 5 cities where you can taste it

Street food and top 5 cities where you can taste it

For many tourists, visiting fancy restaurants is a rarity. Due to the lack of time they are often forced eating standing up. Traditional fast food is an integral part of the culture, which every traveller wants to discover.

For example, in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, rice is the main component of street food dishes. Soup with rice noodles, papaya salad, and chicken with green curry paste are in great demand among tourists. By the way, all kinds of meat and kebab are often prepared right in front of tourists’ eyes on an open fire – such sight is worth its 50 baht for a meal. However, it should be noted that the traditional cuisine of Thailand is very spicy. If you are not used to eat such food, better ask your street chef not to add red pepper and other spicy seasonings to your meal. Vegetarians can enjoy steamed vegetables, and all kinds of seafood with a great variety of sauces, as well as fruit only for 10 baht. On average, snacking on bustling streets of Bangkok will cost you 50-70 baht.

Singapore, the culinary capital of Asia, offers numerous snack kiosks with a variety of dishes traditional for different countries. These are famous grilled sausages from Germany, delicate crepes from France, and dishes typical for other countries, including Singapore dishes. Laksa soup is one of the most favourite among the Singaporeans and tourists. The soup is made of any kind of meat or fish, noodles, vegetables, paprika, and coconut milk. It is often decorated with shrimps – its taste is more delicate this way. This delicious soup will cost you about $5. In Singapore, you should definitely try famous chili crab ($15). However, it is served only in restaurants, food courts and in some outdoor cafes.

Another place for gourmets is Istanbul. Those who love meat will definitely like its traditional dishes. Fat and pretty sweet Turkish kebab, delicious sesame seed bagels are in favour there. Unique Turkish desserts are so tasty and appetising! In Istanbul, food can be bought everywhere in the street, and traders are always friendly, welcoming and happy to cook for foreigners.

Morning in Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh City begins with a cup of invigorating coffee usually cooked with spices. Just in the street you can taste flavoured noodles and moist beef. Pancakes made of rice flour and beef rolls will suit even gourmets’ taste. Mostly, street food traders can be seen on the territory of the major city markets: Ben Thanh and Binh Tay.

Talking about Europe, many travellers are crazy about tasty bagels in Krakow. They are decorated with salt or sugar, poppy or sesame. Crispy and delicious bagels can be bought on Rynek Główny just for 2 zloty, that’s a reasonable price.

Of course, food that street traders offer is not haute cuisine, but it has its unique and unforgettable taste.
